Breathing on her own at the moment

They decided to start the first of many tests I am sure, and essentially turned off the ventilator. This started about 40 minutes ago and she has been breathing on her own with no increased heartbeat, no increased respiratory rate, no increased blood pressure and no decrease in oxygen levels. This is a fantastic big step in getting off the ventilator. They will put her back on ventilator shortly so as not to tire her out, and may try it again later this afternoon, but it is really good news she is able to breathe on her own. The pulmonary staff said she did "fantastic".

Also, she was slated for 2 bags of blood this morning, but when they looked at the results of her blood tests, her hematocrit went UP a little bit, which could mean her marrow might be starting to have a little more function on that end as well. She did receive 1 bag (18 total) and they cancelled the second bag of blood for now.

I don't think are are anymore tests to be done today, though they may start feeding her through a tube. It is a delicate ballet these doctors and nurses are dancing, and any sudden change in any of the variables could cause an unintended setback.

So far that hasn't happened, and I have all the confidence it will not. Her doctor assured me once again this morning "she will get through this".
