A glint of success

Yesterday, her white blood count was 60, which is the first time it has been above 50 since we started this process. While it has since gone back to below 50, it appears as though the marrow may be starting to generate the white blood cells needed for immunity. We had been told to expect the white counts to ebb and flow a bit, and that appears to be exactly what is beginning to happen. All in all, a very positive sign. When the count is consistently over 500 is when she can get out of the hospital.

Factoid: Did you know a year from now, Denise will have to undergo all of the same vaccinations a newborn infant requires (mumps, measles, chicken pox, diphtheria, whooping cough, etc)? This is because her immunity system was destroyed in preparation for the transplant!
