Denise is also currently in the process of receiving another blood transfusion...2 units, which brings me to the..........
Factoid: Including today's transfusions, since Feb 14, she has received 11 units of blood and 9 units of platelets. Don't be surprised if I write about another platelet transfusion tomorrow or Monday. Not to worry loyal blog followers; it is normal and expected until her marrow starts taking of things normally.
The whites will come back first, which will provide some immunity, but it takes longer for the reds and platelets. This lag is the reason they are able to discharge Denise as an overnight patient in 3 weeks or so, but is also the reason she will need to come to the hospital every day afterword for 8 weeks, so that they can monitor her blood and continue transfusing the reds and whites.
When the docs are happy with the marrow production of all the components, we are outta here and headed to the lake!
We are all looking forward to a huge celebration at the lake!!!! Stay tough and stay strong!!!
